Question by mama hatchet: Canon Rebel XT camera has corrupted data, help!?
I have a Canon Rebel XT, which I’ve had for years, and have always had the same memory card, but now on the most recent pictures taken it’s saying corrupted data and won’t let me upload them. When I took the pictures yesterday and viewed them they were normal, but now they say corrupted date.

Someone please help.
I have a Mac.
How do you format the card? The pictures are not tremendously valuable, but I’d rather try not to lose them. Is there any way to format or fix the problem momentarily without losing the pictures?

If not, how do I format the card?

Question by Liam: Is there a problem with my Canon Rebel XS autofocus?
I bought a new canon rebel xs/1000d SLR camera today. I noticed that when I am looking with my eye up to the camera, when it focuses on something the image is still slightly blurry. However the final image on preview mode looks fine. It also focuses perfectly through live view mode. Is this normal? It’s just I noticed on my old Nikon d40 it focused to a slightly more clear image through the lens.

No it is not a problem with the camera. Next to the viewfinder there will be a little wheel or adjustment lever. This is the diopter and is used to adjust the viewfinder to your eyes. Just move this up or down until what you see through the viewfinder is clear.

My Canon camera was recording superbly. Than all of a sudden whenever i try to record video it stops automatically. Sometimes after 5 seconds, sometimes after about 30. Its random. I already tried getting another Memory stick. My current one is 8GB. i tried a 1GB To see if it would atleast fill that. But still no changes. Help please? Advice? a New Camera Donation perhaps? lol

- Put your camera on AUTO — this will be the safest and most reliable
- Get a good place near to the front of the ceremony — don’t be shy, just walk up there
- Shoot at the moment your friend gets the diploma
- Keep shooting, get the joyful smiles
- Fill the frame with the subject — zoom in
- Zoom out to get graduate and group of friends
- If there is a party afterwards, take some candid shots of people having fun
- Give everyone your e-mail address so they can get the pix

My Rebel is getting pretty old (4.5 years at the moment) and it’s beginning to bug out. I don’t like it, so rather than get it fixed I’m going to begin saving for a new one. The only problem is that I don’t have anyone to ask about their higher end dSLR cameras. Has anyone upgraded from the 450d? Would they suggest what they got? Or do you have a high end dSLR that you would suggest?

The upgrade would be the 60D.

By now you don’t need another entry level camera like the 550D or 600D

Absolutely! My first DSLR was the Canon Rebel XTi… along with most of my classmates at the Art Institute of Colorado. It’s a great camera for a beginner.

It’s harder to find it brand new now since Canon now has the XSi and T1i (which are the newer versions). If you can’t find one then I suggest you get one of these.

Depends on price as both are good cameras with a large range of lenses available, but I would tend to go with the new XSi.

The XSi has a newer sensor promising better resolution and I would suspect better performance overall.

The inclusion (finally!!) of spot metering mode in Canon’s entry level model is a handy catch up. This can be a very use full mode in some lighting situations.

Unless something is wrong with your lens it does not suck. It is not the best lens that Canon makes but it isn’t bad either. Don’t take this the wrong way but most people who say it sucks are not using their camera properly. That’s not to say that there are not better choices because there are.
What is it that you don’t like about your lens?

Are your shots blurry? If so this is probably user error.

Do you need more reach? Then you need to get a telephoto zoom lens. The EFs 55-250mm would be a good choice at 0.

Neither of the two lenses you mentioned are all that good. They are not bad but not great either. The equivalent Canon lenses would be much better. They are also for completely different subject matters. The Tamron is basically the same as your current lens though it has a larger aperture. Focal length though is less than what you already have. The Sigma is a telephoto zoom. It is good for sports and other shots where you need to bring far off objects closer. It also allows close focusing though it is not a true macro. You will lose out on the wide angle end because it starts at 28mm instead of 18mm.

Question by derp: How do i use the viewfinder with the canon T2i?
I finally picked up my canon rebel t2i and im loving it! the only problem is when recording footage i prefer to use the viewfinder, but for some reason when i switch to video mode, the viewfinder turns off and the lcd screen starts up. is there anyway i could reverse that?

No. when recording video, the mirror moves up so that the light can hit the sensor. With the mirror in that position it is impossible to use the viewfinder.

Question by mandy: Why is there a constant orange light on my Canon camera?
I have a canon powershot SD1300 IS camera that had a drink spilled on it. I tried drying it out and sticking it in a bag of rice, but that didn’t help. It won’t turn on.
